TODAY IN THEATRE HISTORY: A musical with puppets as the main characters? It may sound crazy, but today in 2003, the PG-13-rated musical Avenue Q opens at the Golden Theatre. It will go on to run for 2,534 performances on Broadway, and win the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical. One month after its final Broadway performance, the production will re-open Off-Broadway at New World Stages.
